On… England
A nation of shopkeepers? Or shoplifters?
“I’ve been dreaming of a time when
To be English is not to be baneful
To be standing by the flag not feeling shameful
Racist or partial.”
Morrissey - Irish Heart, English Blood.
It’s St George’s Day today — and England – and the West – needs a saviour.
The signs of decay are everywhere. From the roads that crumble beneath us and are never fixed, to the cesspit waterways, to the desecration and desertion of our high streets and pubs, to the generation that does not work, and the generation that cannot afford to procreate, and to the deep distrust of ‘experts’… you’re being asked to pay more and more for less and less, to fix the messes of their making, not yours.
For the past 25 years we have been in a state of not-even-managed decline, and our leaders do not lead, they lie, and they shirk, and they have ignored and then turned on their own people. They and their paymasters are obsessed by media image, and think short-term, short-term, and only of themselves, and they have created a deeply unequal surveillance capitalism state where the rich can get a Deliveroo in 20 minutes, and the poor can’t get a doctor’s appointment for love nor money.
Under their regimes England has got worse, not better. We’ve become a country so worthless we can’t even give our territory away. A Britain where you can be sent to jail for a failure of syntax on social media, but if you loot your local supermarket, go to war on a lie, or cause a recession through your greed, you will never, ever be punished.
Our national institutions have forgotten they are there to represent and serve us, and have decided they will lecture and improve us instead. The NHS has became a demi-God to be worshipped rather than a service we pay for to try to fix our ills. An entire ‘ruling’ class has become obsessed, and deranged, by a series of niche, cultural elite issues that are of little concern to the minimum wage worker looking at their bills, and the weekly shop, and their pay packet, and seeing it doesn’t all add up.
Do we even have a country any more? Because doesn’t a country have borders that are protected, and an Army and Navy that can fight, and can you really be a country if raising the nation’s flag is considered an act of rebellion or intimidation, rather than of pride?
Fortunately, all is not yet lost. Our direction can be reversed.
For there is one man capable of putting us back onto the path to prosperity, and pride.
I’m talking of an outsider. A ‘man of the people’ with a man of the people persona who splits opinion, and who, by want of his allegiance, is despised by polite society, who consider those he represent to be base animals, when really they are the salt of the Earth and the backbone of Britain.
A man who has shown he can engage with our working class, reflect their attitudes, earn their loyalty, and who lives the values of hard work, a clear direction, long-term thinking and a cohesive team spirit. Home and away, this man has worked with limited resources and those from diverse backgrounds, and even in the most hostile environments, he gets results.
Here is a man who inspires belief. A man who can show us all the way.
A leader ready to be called.
For England and Britain to be restored, there is only one answer.
And that answer is… Millwall manager (Sir) Alex Neil.
